Q: How do I apply for a position with SFG Engineering?

A:  All individuals interested in a position must submit an on-line application through our web site at www.sfgengineering.co.za. Your information will then be added to our data base, you will receive confirmation of your application and unfortunately we can only contact you should a suitable position become available.

Q: I don't see a position I am interested in on your site but would like to be considered for future openings. What should I do?

A:  You may register as a candidate on our web site at www.sfgengineering.co.za. This will create a profile that will be available to all SFG recruiters to search for your set of skills should a position become available.

Q: Do you accept resumes or applications via e-mail?

A:  Yes you can send your CV in word format, together with a copy of your passport and relevant certificates to the following e-mail address info@sfgengineering.co.za. The preferred method is via the our web site www.sfgengineering.co.za

Q: I see more than one position that I am interested in, do I need to apply multiple times?

A:  No once we have created a profile for you, all agents will use the data base to search for suitable candidates who meet the specific criteria of a position.

Q: What is the current status of my application?

A:  Upon completion of the online application process, applicants receive a confirmation e-mail. At this point, the application is submitted to the position of your choice. Applications are screened for the most qualified candidates to proceed to the next step in the process. With regret, due to the large volumes of applications, we are unable to personally respond to all applicants. Your profile will remain on our data base and you can update it at any time.

Q: I met the qualifications for a position, why wasn't I contacted?

A:  You may be competing with a large number of qualified candidates. Applications are screened for the most qualified candidates to proceed to the next step in the process. With regret, due to the large volumes of applications, we are unable to personally respond to all applicants. If selected for an interview, or if additional information is needed and SFG Agent will contact you directly via e-mail or telephone.

Q: How do I update my application?

A:  Once an online application is submitted your will be able to update at any time.

Q: What do I need to work offshore?

A:  Firstly one has a better chance of working offshore if you have an internationally recognized trade. Original trade certificates must be available for verification. Some of the most sought after positions are Electricians, Boilermakers, Diesel Mechanics, Medics, Coded Welders, Riggers, Health and Safety Officer, Marine Engineers, Planners, Logistics Managers, Sub Sea Engineer, Able Seaman, Roustabouts, Floorman, Pumpman, Derrickman, Drillers and Cooks.

Offshore experience is essential for most offshore placements unfortunately, but with the correct qualification and work experience you can sometimes get an opportunity to start in this exciting environment.

Other requirements in addition to a basic trade that might be required are:

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity from your date of travel with at least 3 blank pages in your passport
  • A recent valid SAMSA or Offshore Medical
  • An offshore survival certificate with H.U.E.T.
  • Yellow Fever Certificate
  • Police Clearance

Depending on the country you are going to travel to a visa might be required.

A:  In South Africa more specifically in Cape Town we recommend the following training institutions

  • Cape Town Peninsula University of Technology Survival Centre
  • Project Maritime in Saldanha Bay

Also please ensure that any training you do is recognized by the Offshore Industry.
