Mechanical Design Engineer

Job requirements:

  1. Eng.; BSc. Eng.; BTech.; NDip. in Mechanical or Mechatronics/Electro-Mechanical Engineering (Industrial engineering may be considered).
  2. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience
  3. Keen attention to detail, ability to read, interpret and implement design code requirements from a design, testing and manufacturing standpoint.
  4. Ability to work in both a team environment and individually; under pressure; meet strict deadlines.
  5. Good written and verbal communication in English is essential (Afrikaans will be an added advantage).
  6. Experience in 2D & 3D design (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidEdge) & MS Office required (Pastel experience advantageous)
  7. Experience in pressure vessel design will be advantageous.
  8. Experience in FEA & CFD will be advantageous.
  9. Experience in hydraulic & pneumatic testing will be advantageous.
  10. Experience in jigs & fixture design and fabrication will be advantageous.

 

Job responsibilities:

  1. Design pressure equipment to the relevant design codes or standards, eg. EN 14025, EN 13445, ASME, SANS 1518 etc.
  2. Ensure compliance with PED/PER, AD 2000 and OHSA regulations.
  3. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 3834-2 quality management system standards.
  4. Complete assigned project tasks in line with set deadlines
  5. Record and report engineering activities and project progress.
  6. Provide solutions to production related technical problems or inefficiencies.
  7. Provide technical assistance to other departments where necessary, by firstly providing them with the tools to assist themselves if possible.
  8. Ensure production receives the necessary engineering assistance to stay up and running uninterrupted, e.g. design drawings, tooling requirements.
  9. Design tooling and equipment for manufacturing and testing of parts.
  10. Quality control and testing of manufactured parts.
  11. Writing operating, testing and maintenance procedures for manufactured parts
  12. Assist with client engineering requests, designs, calculations and technical enquiries.

  • Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience, and in line with internal salary structu
  • Working hours Mon – Thurs (07:20 – 16:25); Fridays (07:20 – 13:00) some over-time may be required to ensure deadlines are met.
