Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Marine, or related field).
  • 5-10 years of experience in project engineering within the maritime, construction, or maintenance industry.
  • Ideal is previous experience in maritime repair industry and knowledge of local key players
  • Proven experience in project management, cost estimating and client negotiation
  • Residence in Cape Town – Cape Town area / South Africa
  • Expertise in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD, Solid Works) and cost estimation software.

 

Job responsibilities:

Site Survey:

  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing conditions
  • Identify potential risks and logistical challenges
  • Ensure accurate measurements and inspections to inform design and project scope

 Cost Estimation:

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for project materials, labor, and equipment, based on site survey findings
  • Perform value engineering to propose cost-effective alternatives without compromising on quality.
  • Regularly update and refine cost estimates to reflect changes in project scope or market conditions

 Project Planning:

  • Develop comprehensive project schedules, including task sequencing, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Finalize technical drawings, specifications
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare contingency plans

 Project Coordination:

  • Supervise on-site activities, including installation, repair, and revamping of maritime vessels
  • Coordinate the allocation of manpower, materials, and equipment across multiple projects
  • Track project progress against key milestones, and report any deviations to the project manager

 Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Ensure all work meets the required quality standards, specifications, and safety protocols
  • Perform periodic inspections and monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation, including reports, certifications, and checklists.

 Client & Stakeholder Communication:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Regularly update clients on project progress, timelines, and any changes to scope or budget.
  • Organize project review meetings to ensure alignment on key objectives and milestones

 Budget & Cost Control:

  • Continuously monitor and manage project budgets to ensure alignment with financial constraints.
  • Review and approve project-related expenses
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements during project execution.

Technical Support:

  • Provide on-the-ground support to resolve any technical or engineering issues during project execution.
  • Assist with the procurement of materials and subcontractor selection.
  • Mentor Supervisors and site team and oversee their development on project tasks.

Specific Requirements/Additional information

  • Strong knowledge of maritime accommodation systems, engineering principles, and industry standards
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to offshore and on-site locations as required.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Primarily office-based with frequent site visits, including shipyards, offshore platforms, and client locations
  • Flexibility in work hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required depending on project deadlines
