JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Qualified Motor Mechanic (Diesel)
Experience:
- At least 10 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of container handling machines or
similar coupled with motor vehicles
- Diesel- and petrol-powered vehicle experience
- Hydraulic systems knowledge
- Forklift truck maintenance / repair
- Truck maintenance / repair
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Arrange all service spares for relevant vehicle prior to service
- Replace any worn / damaged parts found during service, after consultation with Operations Manager.
- Complete vehicle service register
- Housekeeping & safety
- Regularly check vehicles for damage and to ensure correct operation.
- Regularly check vehicles to ensure safe condition & operation
- Repair damage to vehicles using correct parts
- Arrange subcontracted repairs where they are beyond the scope of the mechanic or Company
equipment
- Test & confirm that all repairs have been completed properly before returning vehicle to service
- Prepare vehicles as per their roadworthy requirements
- Take the vehicle to the testing centre
- Immediately repair any deficiencies noted submit for re-test
Specific Requirements/Additional information
Required skills:
- Computer literacy
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to
write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers,
clients, and other employees of the organisation
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar
graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or
diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardised
situations.
- The above work is physically demanding, requiring upper body strength for lifting and working below
vehicles and in tight spaces.
- Must have a valid Code C1 licence and be able to travel from home to work during normal working
hours.
