Material Manager

Job requirements:
- Management of the raw material supply base.
- Optimization of raw material supply chain including:
- Reduction in raw material stock holding.
- Improved lead times.
- Reduction in raw material costs.
- Management of procurement and purchasing functions for the business.
- Management of warehouse functions for the business.
- Management of the finished goods stores.
- Management of the dispatch functions for both the domestic and international markets serviced by the business.
- Be responsible as part of a team for product souring.
Job responsibilities:
- Schedule the supply of materials/components to meet production requirements and minimum safety stock levels
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate processes for material delivery from supplier to point of fit
- Day-to-day order management and management of deliveries
- Understand and manage risks to minimize impact on production schedule
- Take follow up actions in relation to material shortages that affect production
- Implement and manage all processes to agreed standards in the main areas of MRP
- Material ordering and order execution
- Material / Finished goods Receiving
- Warehousing
- Stock control
- Picking/ Issuing
- Incoming/ Outgoing Transport and Logistics
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement
- Utilize any Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) or IT system that is in place and ensure that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required
- Control inventory levels against agreed target levels
- Conduct inventory checks to validate inventory accuracy
- Minimize obsolete stock and ensure business is left with minimum liability
- Create regular statistical reports and analysis and update others in the organization
Specific Requirements/Additional information
- Diploma or equivalent in Material planning, Logistics; Warehousing
- Experience in managing Warehousing/ Material Planning and Control/ Logistics Department/ Team
- Previous experience of materials planning ideally in the manufacturing environment
- Good understanding of supply chain processes and their interdependencies
- Deep understanding of supplier relationships and experience of working with suppliers
- Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge and experience of using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems or similar
- Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous
