Job responsibilities:
Operations Management which includes:
- Provide sufficient management information and or visibility to enhance decision-making
- Local distribution
- Cross border distribution
- Own and Sub-contractor management and compliance
- Fleet management
Manage and build customer relationship with contractors
- Building and maintaining customer relationships.
- Monitoring company performance against service level agreements.
- Ensuring processes and procedures comply with legislation, customer requirements, as well as operational demands
Manage People
- Manage resourcing of the operation with management of a combination of flexible and non- flexible staff
- Develop and motivate staff
- Monitor and coordinate activities and performance of staff.
- Training and development
- Directing and monitoring staff operations.
Manage compliance within the transport department
- Coordination and management of activities that ensure relevant compliance in the following areas:
- Occupational compliance
- Road Traffic Act
- Rail Safety − Mine Safety
- Transportation of Hazardous goods
- TFR Requirements
- ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 22000
- Internal financial controls
- Ensuring fleet operations comply with all legal and operational regulations.
- Monitoring fleet availability and utilization.
- Commissioning new vehicles as required.
Quality Control
- Evaluate and monitor the quality of processes and implement corrective action:
- ISO 9001 ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 22000
- Customer specific standard

- Housekeeping
Administration
- Approve and implement corrective action where necessary in relation to the following reports: − Approve purchase orders in line with Limits of Authority.
- Provide input into the budget process.
- Conduct and plan self-audits.
- Sub-contractor management
- Reviewing monthly reports in order to determine operational effectiveness.
Finance Management
- Effectively controlling and reporting on expenditure.
- Developing and providing annual budget recommendations for fleet and sub-contractor operations.
- Developing the annual fleet and subcontractor budget.
Specific Requirements/Additional information
- 15 years or more experience in transport management
- 10 years senior management experience
- Rail and Road transport operations experience in South Africa and neighbouring countries
- Exposure to managing outsourced sub-contractors and drivers
- Technically sound in Transport Operations Management
- Experience in Fleet Management
- Knowledge of Fuel Management
- Cost Reduction Strategies
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- SHEQ/Risk Management
- Must have own motor vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Passport
Qualification:
- Degree or Diploma in Logistics / Supply chain and Bachelor of Commerce or discipline or similar.
- Industry qualification an advantage
