Job requirements:

  • Knowledge in recognizing and distinguishing between different colours
  • Be prepared to work shifts
  • Minimum Grade 12 with Maths + Science
  • Working knowledge of Sulzer projectile looms and polyprop plastic
  • Ability to work independently
  • Relevant Experience –  loom tuner or technical qualification
  • Must have experience working with Donier or Somet Looms fitted with Staibi dobbie or jacquards is desirable

 

Job responsibilities:

To ensure that all looms are kept in peak working condition following company preventative maintenance schedule. This will include:

  • Prioritizing maintenance to ensure maximum loom efficiency.
  • Identifying worn or defective parts replacing as and when required.
  • Checking and changing lubricants as per the maintenance schedule.
  • Internal cleaning
  • Ensure that loom down time is kept to a minimum through the efficient management of job changes.
  • Where a job or gear change is required, it will be important to ensure that the tie-on is satisfactorily completed and the job pulled through and checked as necessary.

 

The following will also be required: (Overlooker)

  • Assistance with beam installation.
  • Assistance with the tie in procedure.
  • Pin dropping and redrafting.
  • Removing woven cloth to the perch.
  • To ensure that machines in service are operated at their optimum speed and efficiency, with active involvement in managing warp/weft breaks.
  • This will include the fine tuning of the loom and its constituent parts including dobbies, jacquards, or yarn accumulators, where fitted.

Specific Requirements/Additional information

  • To assist the company in maintaining its reputation as a weaver of high-quality woven textile, by ensuring that the production of second quality goods is kept to a minimum.
  • This will include:
  • Assuming specific responsibility for the quality of fabrics woven and the passing of the first piece of all new jobs
  • Ensuring that the picks per inch, weave, width, and weft colours are as specified on the weaving tickets or match the passing sample.
  • Assisting the Weaving Manager in the identification and rectification of weaving quality problems
  • To assist in the maintenance of a safe working environment through the strict adherence to company health and safety rules and procedures.

 

This will specifically include:

  • Ensuring that all maintenance, repair, and lubrication is carried out when the looms are at a standstill and are clearly posted as such.
  • Ensuring that machines are only operated in line with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Ensuring that all safety interlocks are working correctly all guards are securely attached and that this check is recorded.
  • Ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained, with particular emphasis and notice taken of oil grease and warp lubricant spillages.
  • Adhering to all C.O.S.H.H guidelines.
  • Ensuring that all Personal Protective Equipment as issued is used.
