Job requirements:
- Matric
- ICDL Certified will be an added advantage
- Degree or Diploma in general business management
- Industry Related Qualification / PQE in Shipping & Logistics
- Minimum 8 Years relevant freight experience (sea, air, road, and rail) as well as Customs Clearing, Operations and Forwarding experience
- Minimum 3-5 Years Managerial experience
- Technical proficiency in Freight and customs operations
- Proven track record of operations and people management
- Knowledge of health and safety and ISO quality standards will be an added advantage
Job responsibilities:
Operational Functions
- To manage and control all operational functions for the branch, including formulating strategy, improving performance, procuring resources, and securing compliance
- Compliance with the ISO requirements to ensure that service delivery is efficient and maximized

- Ensure all shipment files are updated correctly by team members – and all relevant supporting documents to be uploaded to Ship Shape for record keeping purposes
- Complete and submit ISO file audits in line with the requirements.
- Manage invoicing parameters in line with the team and SOPs
- Manage service delivery for the branch and ensure retention of customers
- Ensure that communication with clients, departments, overseas offices, agents, and other external parties are attended to promptly, effectively, and timeously by the team
- Manage team effectively to ensure problems are resolved efficiently with minimal impact to the branch
- Ensure that the various departments are maximizing profits through value added service offerings and ensuring that invoices are levied correctly
- Ensure that the third-party rates used are competitive, by negotiating best prices with vendors
- Manage third parties’ services levels in line with agreed SOP and SLAs, ensuring that charges raised are at agreed rates
- Manage all non-conformance’s both internal & external as per ISO procedures
- Manage and administer bonded warehouses including compliance checks and audits in conjunction with the company Customs Compliance team
- Ensure that the Durban office – financial budget is achieved by reducing costs and maximizing profitability
- Provide monthly reporting, statistics, and feedback to management
- Ensure effective people management, by correctly implementing company policies and procedures. Conduct one on one performance reviews with team members and initiate succession planning.
- Identify training and skills development gaps, as well as top talent within the team.
- Monitor shipping trends, monthly financial reports and any potential negative impacts on the branch affecting productivity and profitability.
- Ensure reports are sent to management and / or customers as per required deadlines.
- Draft weekly and monthly employee shift schedules and ensure that overtime policy is adhered to.
Customer Service
- Attend to customer and vendor queries professionally and pro-actively, without delay.
- Ensure customer retention by effective engagement and build customer relationships through regular contact via telephone or visits
- Address queries received from Customers, SARS, TNPA and/or other Government institutes
- Ensure regular engagements with customers to ensure retention of existing customers, and onboard 10 new customers annually.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with service providers and contractors
- Actively engage as well as assist in sales and marketing activities
- Participate in branch ad hoc special assignments or tasks by required deadline.
