Job Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant National diploma in Safety Management /Risk Management or relevant equivalent qualification
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • You will be required to pass a medical fitness certificate to be considered for this position.
  • Certificate of training in ISO Systems Auditing and or integrated internal auditing will be advantageous.
  • Min 3 years’ experience in the safety management -mining environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with HSE management systems.
  • A certified risk assessor would be an advantage.
  • Experience in working with quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) and other related legislation
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office: (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Investigation and report writing experience.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The primary function of the HSE Officer is to implement, monitor and maintain the HSE Management system on all COMPANY work sites, to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.

  • Implement and monitor all HSE management systems on the company’s work sites (onshore and offshore), including, but not limited to HSE guidelines, objectives, and practices.
  • Writing health and safety policies and procedures and being involved in creating and updating these documents.
  • Schedule and execute audits on our work sites to identify areas of improvement and implement measures as required.
  • Carry out risk assessments on a continuous basis on site.
  • Provide HSE training, awareness, and induction on site to staff, contractors, and other relevant parties.
  • Engage with staff, contractors, and other relevant parties with respect to HSE matters related to the site.
  • Keep HSE statistical records, such as incidents, accidents, near-misses and working hours on site.
  • Keep HSE registers up to date, including renewals of permits, licenses, etc.
  • Compile monthly site HSE reports.
  • Have first line responsibility for incident investigations, including but not limited to investigating, making initial recommendations, and putting measures in place to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist Management to implement accident-prevention and environmental impact activities on site.
  • Implement emergency and crisis management plans on site.
  • Act as Emergency coordinator on site.
  • Implement Environmental Management Plans of the site.
  • Monitor environmental footprint on site.
  • Other duties as assigned by the 16.1 (CEO) / COO and / or Operations Manager
  • Administer and maintain non-conformance and suggestion systems, including Corrective and Preventative Action Requests (CPAR), Non-conformance Report (NCR) and Field Performance Report (FPR) systems.
  • Ensure quality requirements are met by both internal and external audit, review of inspection reports and analysis of non-conformance reporting.
  • Monitor vendor/contractor performance and ensure only appropriate vendors/contractors are utilized.
  • Ensure quality plans are produced when required and meet requirements.
  • Ensure internal quality standards are maintained and monitored.

 

Specific Requirements/Additional information

  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant HSE legislation (OHS Act and Regulations, Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996), COIDA, etc.), environmental regulations and safety procedures.
  • High levels of organisational commitment and responsiveness.
  • Highly effective verbal communication skills.
  • Very good written communication skills; clear expression of ideas or information
  • Good interpersonal skills: able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, to accomplish HSE compliance and identify and resolve problems.
